Writing the Training Manual That Grew a Team From 5 to 30
When Digital Divide Data handed over a new project without any client-provided training manual or SOP, the small team I supervised had no consistent way to onboard or scale. I built a detailed SOP and training manual from the client's raw materials and my own first weeks on the project. The COO and management team approved it for sharing with the client, and the client approved it immediately for team training. The manual was later adopted for training other teams the client ran globally, and the project grew from 5 people to 30 within a short period.
Digital Divide Data had taken on a new client project. The client had never provided a training manual or standard process, leaving the small starting team to interpret requirements on their own.
Without documented training material, onboarding new team members was inconsistent and slow. This would become a serious constraint the moment the project needed to scale beyond its original small team.
How the Work Got Done
Synthesis
I combined the materials the client had made available with what I had learned in my first few weeks on the project to draft a complete SOP and training manual.
Internal approval
I shared the draft with the COO and management, who reviewed and approved it for onward sharing with the client.
Client adoption
the client approved the manual immediately for team training, and it was later adopted for other teams they ran across the globe.
The Numbers Behind the Work
The team grew from 5 people to 30 within a short period following the manual's adoption.
Beyond the Numbers
“A well-built SOP does not just solve today's onboarding problem, it becomes infrastructure the client reuses long after the original project ends.”
The manual's adoption across the client's global teams turned a project-level fix into an organisation-wide standard. It remains an early example of my instinct to build the missing process rather than wait for someone else to supply it.
